Every bit what we expected. Asking locals, in other towns, we were told about the reputation of this ice cream / yogurt /,dessert "drive in." It was hard to pick from the long list of varieties, but the "peanut chocolate, banana parfait got my request. It was all I could ask for.

Usually try to hit this place on visits back home as it was a part of my childhood. But like everything else in life, this place has changed. Ice cream is really good, but way over priced. I remember as a kid the strawberry ice cream had bits and pieces of strawberry in it. Sadly, it appears to be strawberry flavoring. Still good and creamy, but not the same. The variety of sundae flavors are still there and lovely. The Pink Panther - strawberry ice cream with strawberries, marshmallow cream and nuts - is still my fave. Yes, I love strawberries. The malts can be ordered in various thickness, not many places do that. I just wish they'd get wider straws as even regular malts seem as if your head will cave in from trying to suck down that yummy goodness. One side note - if we are ordering in the drive through, no need to ask us if the order is "to go." Of course it is, sweetie. But I did get a bit of the attitude that others mentioned on a couple visits along with the sticker shock. This place is yummy, but bring cash as that is all they accept.

The Tastee Freez in Spring Valley apparently does not want to accommodate people with special needs! To elaborate, I have a son who is intolerant to ice cream. As a family, we went out for ice cream the other night and asked for sprinkles for him (so he could partake in the experience). I completely understood that they could not GIVE the sprinkles away, but when asked if I could order ice cream with sprinkles, but hold the ice cream, they would not sell it to me, due to policy. I just got off the phone with the owner who told me I should have stopped at the grocery store if I wanted sprinkles so badly. I also asked her for her superior's contact info (since apparently this is a corporate policy) and she hung up on me while telling me it was "103 degrees outside and she was too busy for this."POOR customer service!!! All I wanted was an apology. I suggest you take your business to Lasalle's Twisty freeze! This incident may seem trivial but I think it is a form of discrimination. Obviously, it is not about the sprinkles, but more about customer service. I should add that they served my other son vanilla ice cream with sprinkles instead of chocolate. They replaced the order they screwed up, using just as many sprinkles they would have used to give my other son the darn sprinkles! It was like they were going out of their way to anger the customer!

For some reason I have an obsession of Bureau County so it was emphatic I go to an ice cream shop. I could probably write a speech on Bureau County, no joke. Anyways, all I can say is I wish this was closer to where I live. All I have is a DQ and Culver's. Nothing like a good ol' ice cream stand like Tastee Freez! It's such a lil' cool lookin' place! Plus yummy ice cream!!! I just got a vanilla cone - HUGE!! Got some nice pictures to add to my Bureau County folder ha. So jealous of all you Spring Valley-ans.

Spring Valley Tastee Freez is a good place to go for ice cream but they have a down side. They only take cash, if you need a receipt they have to hand write it, and it is very expensive there. I occasionally go here maybe once or twice a year because I think it is overpriced for this area and for what you get. The people who work there are not as fast as they could be at making your ice cream because they are lazy teenagers working there most of the time. Now my mother is a huge fan but she loves ice cream more than me, always carries cash on her, and she is probably nostalgic for the good old days of going out for ice cream. I just prefer to go to the grocery store and pick up a half gallon of whatever ice cream I'm craving at the time just because it is cheaper and it is more than one serving so I can have multiple days of eating ice cream unless my family gets into it and eats it all on me but then it is still worth it because I've gotten so much more for my money in the end. So yeah sometimes I stop by for a mango slush, pink panther, upside down banana split, or turtle but usually I don't because I don't think it is worth it and I'm not that crazy about the place. So if you do go make sure you have cash and make sure you go through the drive thru if you're in a hurry because getting out of the car and going up to the window takes longer and sucks if the weather is bad outside.
